Part III: Time for Flowers - "The Questions"
As I mentioned in my last two columns, this last column on flowers will be a list of questions to prepare you for when it’s time to sit with your florist. Remember don’t be afraid to ask questions, at least 6% of your budget goes towards this part of the planning process. Be confident in the florist you choose.
Design Style
As your florist if they have a design philosophy. Is it traditional, elegant or even funky? Have them tell you about their artistic style – their favorite flowers and colors. Does it fit your style?
See, Touch and hold it
Ask the florist if they have any real samples of floral arrangements you can see. Most florists will even take your ideas and design your bouquet for you. If so, make sure you hold it, really look at it and that you’re in love with it.
Big Shop, Little Shop
Ask the florist how many staff members work for her/him, how big is the shop, and who will be working on your wedding?
Expertise
Ask your florist how many years have they been is this business, what is their background. Ask questions about which flowers will be in season, what colors and flowers are most popular and which flowers will wilt in the heat if you’re having a summer wedding.
Familiarity
Is the florist familiar with your ceremony and reception location? If so, ask to see some photos. If not, be sure to get some photos of your location or set up a tour if possible for your florist. If this isn’t possible then be sure to describe the location as detailed as possible to give your florist a vision of your locations.
Extra Cost!
Is delivery and set up included? Be sure to ask this question. You don’t want to be surprised with extra costs on your final payment.
One Wedding, Two Weddings, Three Weddings, Four …..
Be sure to ask how many weddings does your florist handle on a weekday/end? How many does he have scheduled on your wedding day?
Rent Me
Does your florist offer rentals of vases, candelabras, and arches? If they do offer rentals, ask them to provide a list you can take with you just in case you decide you want an arch at your ceremony.
Book It!
Does your florist require a deposit? If so, how much? When is your final payment due?
Preserve the Memories
If you’re interested, ask your florist if they handle flower preservation.
Good Luck!
Leslie
